YAHOO SPORTS ANALIZES TEAM SPAIN
19.09.09
Yahoo Sport article (on MLB section) reports about the team Spain, remarking it is now in the 2nd round of World Cup, and showing the relation between Spain current team and players with south american and spanish familiar roots.
A similar situation happens in other European teams, like Italy, Great Brittain or the Netherlands, where not all the players are formed in local teams, or they perform mostly in A or AA teams at USA, South America or independent leagues.
The article remarks on the South American roots of most of the players: at this 2009 season, some of them are playing in USA teams, like Figueroa (Paco and Daniel) brothers, Rhiner Cruz, Antonio Noguera or Eric Gonzalez.
Others are playing in Spanish Liga Nacional: mainly names from Marlins Tenerife team, champion 2008 and 2007: Shortstop Nestor Perez, outfielders Daniel Martinez, Richard Montiel and Luis Perez, pitcher Ivan Granados, and infielder Daniel Sanchez. Sant Boi sends to national team his 1st baseman Jose Luis Riera and 3rd baseman William Domero, while Emmanuel Febles belongs to Futbol Club Barcelona. These players have been formed in these Spanish teams' organizations.
Liga Nacional is improving its level every year: for instance, some of the Venezuela team players perform in Spanish team, like shortstop Dirimo Chavez.
Especially since last two years, some others were signed into Italian teams, after several years playing in Spain: catcher Dewis Navarro, and best spanish pitchers like Fernando Gutierrez, Remigio Leal, Joel Hernandez and Jorge Balboa (see section at this website: Spanish Players in Foreing Leagues).
Xavier Mateu, RFEBS representative, and pitcher Manuel Olivera shows their points of view about Spain team transformation in the last years.
